The AfroFuturism Oasis

The WLF AfroFuturism Oasis installation offers an immersive glimpse into a transformative community project, set to begin construction in summer 2025. The project will transform a retiring MAX train and the North Larrabee site into a healing hub for the Black and African American community in Portland.

This installation sparks imagination and dialogue about the site’s future, featuring canopies inspired by MAX Light Rail Vehicles, projections of Afrofuturistic designs for the project, and a colorful “field of light” at the site entrance. A food truck provides warm meals and drinks. Together, these elements highlight a brighter future for the area grounded in Afrofuturistic principles, equity, sustainability, and creativity.
