Saxophone ONE

8.5 foot lighted Sculpture created by Travis Pond of found and repurposed steel, from metals collected around the Pacific Northwest

Dedicated to those who dare to pick it up and change the world. This sculpture was commissioned by the Williams Vancouver Business Association (WVBA) to commemorate the time when North Williams Avenue was the vibrant center of Black Portland, and featured a live jazz music scene – known as “Black Broadway” in the 1960s – of national renown. The placement of this sculpture is located on an outdoor lot where the WVBA has hosted summer music events, so we hope that the sculpture will continue to encourage more live music events during the spring and summer months.Folks can visit the sculpture, and get food and drinks at the nearby food cart, Pepe’s Chile Taqueria.
